.What they’d just shared wasn’t anything that anyone could toss aside.“Too late, sweetheart.I’m invested.” He moved his hand over her hip, cupping her bottom in his palm. Then, slowly, he slid his fingers into the sweet moist place between her legs.“You’re so soft,” he moaned.“I’ve never, ever had sex feel so…perfect.”“Perfect?” She rose up just enough to look into his face.Shimmering in her misty blue eyes he saw doubt, fear, but he also saw a woman who’d been satisfied sexually.A wave of relief shimmered through him.“Really perfect.” Damn, she was beautiful. He might not even need three minutes.“What do you mean by invested?” She melted into him, a sign that maybe he hadn’t done anything wrong.Everyone had a little bit of doubt and fear in the beginning, right? He chuckled.“I bought a thirty-six pack of condoms.” He kissed her, one of those deep kisses that she swore she didn’t like but seemed to enjoy. She hesitated, but he moved his fingers between her legs, softly stroking. Her hips started the slightest shifting motion. He really loved that little motion. It was a motion that said yes.Reaching up, she ran a hand over his cheek.“Okay.” She leaned in, her mouth a breath away from his.“But only until you run out of condoms.”He dropped his arms from around her, shot up, and snatched his boxers from the floor.“What…are you doing?” she asked. He looked over his shoulder.“Getting dressed.I’m going to buy more condoms.Thirty-five more times isn’t going to cut it.”She laughed. He laughed. But God help him, he wasn’t joking. He wondered about making two Christmases with Sue.Falling back into bed, he pulled her against him.CHAPTER TWENTY-NINEThey had made love most of the night and pretty much all day long.Jason hadn’t stopped smiling. He couldn’t help it.Not even when Chase kept giving him the eye.Jason and Chase sat in Chase’s Isuzu Rodeo outside of Kathy’s mobile home while Sue, Kathy, and Lacy had their Friday girls’ night out.The men had been banned from inside the trailer, but the girls had agreed to being watched from the car. That was as good as they all figured it was going to get. While Chase listened to his iPod, Jason scanned again the file he’d made for Sue’s case.He studied the notes about the stolen Saturn. The car hadn’t been found, so it was still a loose end.Jason tapped his pen against the file, getting that feeling again—the feeling that he was missing something right before his eyes. His gaze went to the name of the Cucumber Lady, AKA the Cadillac driver whom he hadn’t dealt with yet. While she was unrelated to Sue’s case, he felt compelled to do something about her before she injured herself or someone else.Tomorrow.He planned to stop off and talk to her tomorrow about using a taxi or limo service.Yeah, he’d go right after he and Sue spent the morning doing what they’d been doing for the past twenty-four hours.Another wry smile whispered across his face as he looked toward the trailer. He hadn’t been away from her for more than an hour, and still he ached for her.He glanced at Chase.“What are they doing in there?”Chase stared at his iPod.“If it’s the same as usual? Drinking Jack Daniels and talking.”Jason frowned.“Talking about what?”Chase still didn’t look at him.“Chances are, Kathy’s verbally castrating the last man who made a pass at her.Lacy’s probably telling them how cute my nieces are, and I ‘d bet my left nut that Sue’s telling them about all the sex you two have had.”When Jason didn’t say anything, Chase gifted him with a shit-eating grin.“Hey, you two are glowing like walking nightlights. The word sex flashes from your eyes every few minutes.Admit it!”Jason smiled and popped a cinnamon ball into his mouth so he wouldn’t be tempted to brag.Kissing and telling had already gotten him into trouble with Sue once.Chase shook his head.“You’ve been attracted to her for over a year.To be honest, I don’t understand what took you so long.”Jason talked around the candy.“It could be that your wife told me she’d castrate me and grind the leftover parts into sausage if I hurt her friend.”Chase’s right brow arched.“And you know she means it?”“Yup.” Jason flipped the cinnamon ball to the top of his tongue.Chase studied him.“So, this is that serious, huh?”The candy went back into Jason’s cheek. The word serious vibrated in his chest.“What do you mean?”“I mean, a man doesn’t risk his Jimmy Dean being ground into…well, Jimmy Dean for just any woman.”Jason glanced away, shifted in his seat.It wasn’t his Jimmy Dean he worried about.Pushing that thought back, he eyed Chase.“Sue said they’ve been meeting for years.”“I told you about it.It’s the Divorced, Desperate, and Delicious club.”“Yeah, but what do they do?”“Sue didn’t tell you?” Chase laughed.“They talk—mostly about sex.Multiple orgasms, favorite positions. To night I’m told they’re discussing sex and food.I’m dropping by the grocery store on my way home.I’d suggest you do, too.”“Right.” Jason chuckled, not believing.Chase stared at him.“No, I’m serious. You know that they were all abiding by some ‘men are dogs’ law of celibacy. They didn’t have sex so they met once a week and talked about it.Of course, I—woman-charmer that I am—rescued Lacy, but they still meet.”Jason was feeling pretty damn good that Chase wasn’t the group’s only savior, but he kept his tongue wrapped around his cinnamon ball.He wasn’t going to give his friend the benefit of the whole truth, knowing for sure that he and Sue were sleeping together. Not yet.Chase laughed.“They even give away awards for the ‘Most Horny’ every week. For the person who needs it most.” When Jason smirked he added, “I swear to God, I’m not joking.”“Well, Sue’s out of that race.” Jason was unable to keep the smugness out of his voice. Then he realized he’d spilled his guts, and he frowned.Damn.Chase thumped the steering wheel with his palm.“I love it when I’m right! Come on, give me details.”Jason frowned.“I don’t think so.”Chase scratched his jaw and studied him.“Okay.” Silence, and then: “I’m praying Lacy wins the Horny award. That bed at my sister’s was the noisiest thing I’ve ever heard, and after my niece walked in on us in the shower, Lacy cut me off completely. And she was so eager to get here to night she wouldn’t give me fifteen minutes to ease the burden, if you know what I mean.A man can only take so much.”“You got my sympathy.” Jason looked back at the file.“Aah, come on, just a few details,” Chase begged.Jason didn’t even look up.“Just tell me how you got Sue to break her vow of celibacy. What special ‘Dodd’ trick did you use?”“I put in a movie.” Realizing he was talking again, and that his candy was gone, he popped another into his mouth.More silence.“Hot shit,” Chase said.“This is serious.” He nudged Jason with an elbow.“You’ve always given me details.Good ones, too.”Jason shrugged.“So, how serious is it?”Jason frowned.“I said I like her.”“ ‘Like?’ ” Chase repeated.“A man likes French toast, likes ketchup with his fries. You don’t just ‘like’ this girl. Not one you don’t want to talk about. When a man doesn’t want to give details, that usually means it’s damn special. So spill your guts. How special is it?”The question struck a raw nerve.“Back off, okay?” Jason snapped.“What does that mean?”“It means back off!” Jason slapped the file on the dashboard.“What is it with you married guys? You’re so freaking miserable, not getting any of your own, you want me to tell you about my sex life so you can get your jollies.”Chase eyed Jason as if he’d grown a second head
